Every one of these has a Latin twin with a different sound. These five cause most beginner errors.

🎒 What you need

cardboard
a marker or charcoal
a partner with a watch or a counting voice

✋ Do this

Cut five cards and write one liar letter on each, large.
Have your partner hold them up one at a time, fast, while you call the correct sound. Any hesitation counts as a miss.
Run it until you get twenty in a row with no hesitation. Speed is the whole point — you are overwriting a reflex, not learning a fact.
Now decode these five real words letter by letter: ресторан, доктор, студент, университет, инженер.
Notice what happened: every one of them is an international word, and all five contain a liar letter. That is why they look unreadable until the liars are fixed.
Write ИНЖЕНЕР — engineer — on cardboard and put it on your wall. That is one of the reasons this language is worth your time.

💡 Why it works

Latin-lookalike letters are the single biggest bottleneck in Cyrillic reading, because your brain answers before you can intervene. Drilling them under time pressure, as a named group, is what replaces the wrong automatic answer with the right one instead of leaving both competing.
