Everyone in the Family

🎒 What you need

• the shared phone, about 15 minutes
• your family
• paper and a pen

✋ Do this

1. Listen to the six family words. Notice that أخت — ukht — sister — is أخ — akh — brother — with a ت added on the end. That ت ending marks the feminine in Arabic again and again.
2. Repeat each word after the recording five times.
3. Point at each real person in your home and say their Arabic word aloud as you point.
4. Draw your family on paper and write the Arabic word under each figure, right to left, joined up.
5. Say أسرتي — usratī — 'my family' — while you show your drawing to somebody. Stick the drawing on the wall.
6. Test yourself: put the phone away, look at your drawing, and name everybody in Arabic without help.
