مدخل ⬅️ · خروج ➡️ · ممنوع 🚫 · مفتوح ✅ · مغلق ⛔
🎒 What you need
- paper and a pen
- permission to walk with an adult
- your eyes
✋ Do this
- Learn the five words and write each one three times, joined, right to left.
- Notice ممنوع — mamnūʿ — forbidden — has your م prefix and your ع from module 4. You can now read it from parts you already know.
- Go out with an adult and look for Arabic on shopfronts, mosque noticeboards, imported packaging, medicine boxes and any signage near you.
- Copy every piece of Arabic you find, exactly, joined, right to left.
- Sound out each one aloud. For any word you cannot read, circle the letters you DO recognise. That partial reading is real progress.
- Make five cards with the sign words and put them on the right doors in your own home. Leave them there.
💡 Why it works
Sign vocabulary repeats constantly and is written in large clear type, making it the ideal first real reading material. Partial decoding — recognising some letters in an unknown word — is also exactly what a developing reader does, and practising it deliberately speeds everything up.
🔥 Challenge
Find one piece of Arabic writing nobody else nearby can read, and read it to them.
