口 → 日 → 田 → 中 → 国
🎒 What you need
- the shared phone, about 15 minutes
- your cereal-box flashcards from module 3
- a pen
✋ Do this
- Open the stroke animation. Watch 口 kǒu draw itself. Left side down, top and right in one stroke, then the bottom line closes the box. Three strokes, always in that order.
- Watch 田 tián build. It is a field seen from above, divided into four plots — exactly what farmland looks like from a hill.
- Watch 中 zhōng. A box with a line straight through the middle. Middle. China calls itself 中国 — the middle country.
- Now put the phone face down and write 口 日 田 中 国 on the back of five new cardboard cards, in the correct stroke order, without peeking.
- Turn the phone over and check each one. Fix any stroke you got in the wrong order and write it again.
- Hold up your card for 中国 and say Zhōngguó out loud. That is the name of the country on half the goods in your nearest market.
💡 Why it works
Stroke order is not fussiness — it is the rhythm that makes characters memorable and readable. Once your hand knows the order, you can write a character you have only seen once, because your hand knows where each line has to start.
🔥 Challenge
Write 国 on a card and hide it somewhere in the house. Whoever finds it has to say Zhōngguó correctly to win it.
