Price It So It Survives

Set the price from your costs and your time, not from your nerves.

๐Ÿ’ต price โˆ’ ๐Ÿงพ cost โˆ’ โฑ๏ธ time = ๐Ÿ’ฐ margin per job
One simple sum, written out for one single job, before you sell anything.

๐ŸŽ’ What you need

โœ‹ Do this

  1. List every real cost for one job: paper, printing shop charge, data bundle, transport, airtime. Add it up honestly, including the small ones.
  2. Time one job with a clock. Multiply by what an hour of your effort is worth to you. Add it to the cost.
  3. Set your price above that total and write the margin per job. If the margin is thin, either raise the price, cut a cost, or offer a smaller version โ€” decide, do not drift.
  4. Build three levels: a small quick version, a standard one, and a bigger one. Most customers pick the middle, and having three makes the middle feel sensible.
  5. Ask Claude to draft your WhatsApp status message and a short price list, then rewrite both in your own voice so they sound like a person your customers know.
  6. Agree with your adult how money will be received โ€” cash in front of them, or into their M-Pesa or EcoCash account โ€” and write that arrangement in your notebook.

๐Ÿ’ก Why it works

Costs that feel invisible, like a data bundle or the walk to the printing shop, are the ones that eat a young business alive. Writing the sum for one single job makes the margin visible, and three price levels give the customer a choice about size instead of a choice about whether to buy. Some young people running services like this earn a few dollars a week; it is real money, and it grows only if the margin is real.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Challenge

Reduce your cost per job by one real item without making the work worse.
