1. Who we are
rise AFRICA skills ("we", "us") is a practical-skills training platform operating at www.riseafricaskills.com. We are the data controller for the personal information described below.
Contact: all@riseafricaskills.com · WhatsApp +263 77 300 1353
2. What we collect
We only collect what the platform actually asks you for. There is no hidden tracking beyond what is listed here.
| Information | When we collect it | Is it required? |
|---|---|---|
| Name | When you create an account | Yes |
| Email address | When you create an account or enrol | Yes |
| Phone number | When you create an account or enquire | Optional |
| Password | When you create an account | Yes — stored encrypted, never in readable form |
| Courses you enrol in, and your progress | As you use the platform | Automatic |
| Organisation name and contact details | Only if you request bulk or group enrolment | Only for bulk enquiries |
| Messages you send us | When you contact support or use WhatsApp | Only what you choose to send |
We do not collect: your ID or passport number, your bank or card numbers (payment providers handle those directly — we never see them), your location, or your contacts.
Quiz answers and course progress are stored in your own browser using local storage. That information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
3. Why we collect it
- To give you access to courses you enrol in — we need to know who you are to show you the right content.
- To issue your Business Seed Record — the Record carries your name. (It confirms you completed an enterprise pointer exercise; it is not a certificate or a qualification — see our Terms.)
- To contact you about your enrolment — confirmations, access details, and replies to questions you ask us.
- To answer support requests — by email or WhatsApp.
- To understand which courses are useful — how many people start and finish a course, so we can improve or retire it.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We do not use it to serve you advertising, and we do not pass it to advertisers.
4. Where your data is stored
We use Supabase because it lets a small team run a secure platform affordably. If you are not comfortable with your information being stored outside your country, please do not create an account — you can still contact us on WhatsApp and we will help you directly.
Our course pages are hosted on GitHub Pages, which serves the pages themselves. GitHub receives standard web-server information such as your IP address when your browser requests a page.
5. Who we share it with
| Who | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Account details, enrolment records | Database hosting |
| GitHub (Pages) | Standard web request data, including IP address | Serving the website |
| WhatsApp / Meta | Your phone number and message content | Only if you choose to contact us on WhatsApp — that conversation is governed by WhatsApp's own privacy terms |
| Payment providers | Payment details you enter with them directly | Taking payment. We never receive or store your card or bank numbers. |
| YouTube (Google) | Request data, only when you click a video to play it | Course video lessons. Videos are not loaded until you click play, so nothing is sent to YouTube if you never start one. |
We will disclose information if we are legally required to by a valid order from a competent authority. If that happens and we are permitted to tell you, we will.
6. Children under 18
- A parent, guardian or teacher must create and hold the account. We ask that children do not register an account in their own name.
- The kids' course pages themselves collect nothing. Progress and badges are stored in the browser on the child's own device and never reach us.
- Where an AI assistant is used in a course, the account must belong to an adult, and the terms of that AI provider apply.
- If you believe a child has given us personal information without a parent or guardian's involvement, email all@riseafricaskills.com and we will delete it promptly.
7. How long we keep it
- Account details — for as long as your account is open, then deleted within 90 days of you asking us to close it.
- Enrolment and Business Seed Records — kept while you may need to prove a Business Seed Record is genuine. If you want them erased sooner, ask us, but be aware we will then no longer be able to verify your Record.
- Support messages — up to 24 months.
- Bulk enquiry details — up to 24 months, or sooner on request.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights under laws such as Zimbabwe's Data Protection Act, Kenya's Data Protection Act, Nigeria's Data Protection Act, South Africa's POPIA, and the GDPR. Wherever you are, we will honour all of the following:
- See what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete it.
- Get a copy in a portable format.
- Object to a particular use of your information.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- Complain to the data protection authority in your country.
To use any of these, email all@riseafricaskills.com with the subject "Data request". We aim to respond within 30 days and we will not charge you for it.
9. How we protect it
- The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your device and us is encrypted.
- Passwords are stored using one-way encryption. Nobody at rise AFRICA skills can read your password.
- Access to the database is limited to the people who need it to run the platform.
- Payment card details never touch our systems.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach that puts your information at meaningful risk, we will tell affected users and the relevant authority as required by law.
10. Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
We use your browser's local storage to remember practical things: which courses you have opened, your quiz progress, your theme choice, and your language preference. This stays on your device. Clearing your browser data will erase it, including your saved course progress.
If you sign in, an authentication token is stored so you are not asked to log in on every page.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. For significant changes affecting how we use your data, we will notify account holders by email.
